Used to remember when Nokia phones were the popular phones to get in the late 90s. Excellent form factor and usability for those times.

Then, in the recent few years, their competitors have gotten much more aggressive and numerous. They were beaten on clampshell phone designs (e.g. Motorola Razr). Now, the market is going towards touch screen phones (pioneered by Apple), and everybody is playing catch-up.

Even in the recent 8 megapixel camera/ touch phones by Samsung, LG, etc., don't see anything much from Nokia (unless I'm wrong) there.

Point is, the market for handphones has gotten better for consumers in terms of choice and worse for Nokia, which is still the global handphone incumbent. So many new competitors not traditionally in the space (e.g. Google, Apple).
