In Australia, you either use a digital TV or a standard(any brand) set-top box in order to receive all free to air channels from all the 5 terrestrial station networks(Channel 7/9/10 and the govts ABC and SBS stations, all of which have multiple channels in digitals)

To expect consumers to use more than 1 set-top box is crazy.

For god's sake, just deliver everything through a common medium call Internet using P2P protocols. Don't tell me they don't know what is TVants or TVUplayer. Just deliver them as pay channels. You can even watch it overseas too.

If not, use DVB-T with a set top box + encryption. What is the big problem ?! There is no need of multiple boxes to encrypt all these nonsense.

I expect StarHub and SingTel, as companies out to make a profit, to do what they do. But the regulators, trusted to safeguard the interests of the public as well as a fair arbitrator for industry, should have done better. I know it's just pay-TV, but if they can't even get such a simple thing right, what more the important issues?

I also find it weird that they are only talking about a universal box AFTER Starhub lost the exclusive rights to EPL. Come on, this topic has been bought up several times in the past. Why is the govt looking into it only after Starhub lost the rights to EPL?

If Starhub called for a universal box when they are still holding the exclusive rigths to EPL, I would respect them as a company. But isn't it too late now?
