British hi-fi speaker maker Bowers & Wilkins has come up with its first pair of computer speakers, which it says will provide “hi-fi” sounds from laptops and PCs hooked up to them.

The MM-1, a little reminiscent of Bose’s earliesr PC offerings, looks the part and is now up for pre-order here in Singapore before it ships in April 2010. Each pair will cost you a handsome S$899 – the cost of a PC – at B&W distributor Eighteen 77.

As part of the product pre-launch promotion, you get 10% discount for buying of one unit and 15% discount for two units. Promotion ends on 2 Mar 2010, according to Eighteen 77.

It’s a Denon 1509 AVR (audio-visual receiver, sorry, not adult-video receiver for you, Billy) plus a set of Definitive Technology ProCinema 600 5.1 speakers that I ordered from KEC at Adelphi.

I’m just dying to set up these chio speakers and fire up a DVD in an instant!

Geek Buy #1: AE Aego M speakers

This is the first of our Geek Buy series, where we bring you the best buys in town whether it’s a laptop, cellphone or pair of speakers.

Let’s start with one of the best bang-for-buck PC speakers you can get – the Acoustic Energy Aego M. I went down with my pal Marcus yesterday to Sim Lim Square, where he bought himself a pair of these little wonders for a nice S$250.

Though small, these PC speakers produce some of the sweetest music you can expect from a PC desktop setup. You’d expect clarity and tonal range that is beyond the grasp of most PC speakers from Creative or Altec Lansing, which are more interested in producing the “noise” of explosions, gunfire, and other special effects.
