Hp Slate 7 Front - with screen

HP has released an affordable, entry-level Android tablet, the HP Slate 7, which looks set to challenge Google’s Nexus 7 in the 7-inch tablet arena.

The most attractive thing about the HP Slate 7 might just be its price – at a mere S$249, the Slate 7 is S$100 cheaper than the Nexus 7 in Singapore. Pre-order it online at the HP online store and the HP Slate 7 costs only S$199 – that’s substantially cheaper than the Nexus 7, which is priced from S$349.

To be honest, I wasn’t quite sure about the MSI S20 Slidebook when I first saw it. Slide-out Windows 8 machines, like those from Sony and Toshiba before it, haven’t done really well, mainly because of the limitations that often come with such a design.

Can MSI make a difference with this portable tablet cum laptop?

Android apps on Google Play store

Users will spend US$65 billion on e-books, games and other content on their smartphones and tablets by 2016, up from this year’s US$40 billion, according to a research report released today.

The upsurge, according to Juniper Research, will be fueled by tablet users buying games, videos and e-books on their mobile devices, along with easier direct payment methods offered on smartphones by telecom operators.

In these tough times, PC makers are still grappling with how much processing power and features to place in their Windows 8 tablets, just to compete with low-cost, low-power iPads and Android tablets.

The Dell Latitude 10 is one example of an either “half empty” or “half full” experience, depending on how you see things.

HP ElitePad 900

The arrival of touch-screen tablets and other designs with screens that flip, turn or rotate has not revived the fortunes of the ailing PC market.

Instead of providing a much-needed reboot, these Windows 8 machines may actually have made things worse by plunging the market into its steepest ever decline, according to research firm IDC.

Surface_RT_26

Months after it first appeared in American stores, the much-talked about Microsoft Surface RT finally made it to Singapore over the weekend.

It’s a first for a couple of things. It’s the debut tablet from Microsoft and it uses the first Microsoft operating system made just for tablets - Windows RT.

In the end, the Surface RT is just going to split opinions. It’s got so much going for it, yet it is limiting in ways that can be frustrating.
