Singaporeans, it seems, are chronic queuers, and it’s not just iPhones commanding snaking lines.

Even in the age of convenient online pre-orders, hundreds, if not thousands still preferred to get their hands on Blizzard’s latest game Diablo 3 the old-fashioned way – by queuing at the Funan mall launch event yesterday. Some queued for three hours or more for a copy of the long-awaited game.

Diablo 3 beta review

I finally got around to writing my review of the beta about a month after the Diablo III beta was released.

If you’re a Blizzard fanboi, you know you will play this game. No matter how much you rail and complain about the cost or the extended wait, you will buy and play this game.

For example, I capitulated and ended up buying Starcraft 2 a month after it was released even after I screamed about the cost. Figures.

In any case, Diablo is a game that inspired a whole generation of clones in the action role-playing genre, and that alone makes it worthy to check out.

Blizzard Entertainment’s latest followup in its World of Warcraft franchise topped the sales chart during the holidays with more than 4.7 million copies sold in the first month, making it the best-selling PC in any month.

Released on December 7 in a number of countries including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and United States, as well as Europe, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm had already broken another record on Day 1. With sales of 3.3 million copies in the first 24 hours, it was already the fast-selling PC game on Day 1.

Starcraft 2 pre-orders for S$109 at Licence2Play

It’s no surprise for anybody who went down to last weekend’s Licence2Play that Starcraft 2 was the biggest thing there.

Blizzard and IAHGames had a big booth showcasing Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty at the gaming fair, which was held this year from 28th to 30th May at the Singapore Expo. Besides this, not much else has changed compared to last year’s event, except that it is not held at Suntec anymore.

There were some events being run by the Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA), but this paled in comparison to the big draw: A chance to play Starcraft 2 beta and pre-order the game.

I was tempted to get it, but the S$109 pre-order price for the game and beta key was a little steep. The dog-tag souvenir was not enticing enough for me to pay upwards of S$100+, so without more shiny stuff, I passed. Hopefully, when the game comes out on July 27th, it will be more reasonably priced.
