The followup to one of the most popular Android phones last year is proving to be a good one for Samsung, as the Galaxy SII was sold out in Singapore over the weekend.

No numbers from Samsung Singapore folks yet, but they must be beaming with smiles at the “unexpected” sales at launch, while waiting for more stocks to arrive “in the next few days”.

Weeks after rumours of a second Google Nexus phone surfaced on blogs everywhere, the Samsung-made Nexus S has finally been unveiled last night (SGT) by the search giant.

UPDATE: The phone will reach shops in Singapore in late Q1 2011, “subject to successful negotiations with local partners”, says Samsung. It adds that specs will also be slightly different if it makes its way here – the operative word being “if”, so there’s no guarantee it’s coming to here.

The biggest thing here is, of course, the new version of Android, codenamed Gingerbread.

With folks like Sony Ericsson and Nokia doing their thing outside of CommunicAsia, what new gadgets can you see at this year’s show?

Well, Samsung seems to be the brightest light at the show here. I’m particularly intrigued by the Galaxy Beam, which looks a little like a Galaxy S with a bit more heft in the shape of a small projector. Yes, you heard right, this little guy doubles up as a projector to screen your presentations.
