LG Electronics has launched its new LG E-paper Display that can show off posters and other promotional materials at retail stores, hotels and offices, while consuming less energy than today’s commercial signage.
The LG display features a 32-inch QHD screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It uses electronic ink panel technology, which creates images by moving electrically charged colour particles through an electric field.
Unlike traditional digital displays, the LG E-paper Display only consumes power when its on-screen content is being updated. This helps reduce energy consumption, making it suitable for dynamic content updates, such as point-of-purchase displays and in-store signage.
With no backlight required, a key feature is the display’s texture and feel of a traditional paper poster. The product has an overall thickness of 17.8mm and weighs 3.1kg, which includes the built-in battery.
With its reflective, backlight-free panel, the display also offers wide viewing angles of 180 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically. LG’s proprietary image optimisation algorithm further enhances colour reproduction, which it says can deliver more natural and vivid visuals.
Designed to enhance operational efficiency, the LG E-paper Display packs a 72Wh battery and an ultra-low-power system-on-chip (SoC) to allow for extended operation. The battery can be fully charged in about three hours when used with the included charger. The display can also be charged wirelessly through a detachable magnetic battery.
The power management feature automatically controls power usage based on user-defined content schedules. This helps to minimise energy consumption by activating only when updates are needed.
The display runs on a commercial signage-optimised version of webOS, LG’s own operating system for its TVs and other smart devices. It has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for the display to be remotely managed. Users can monitor device status, adjust settings, perform software updates and replace content easily by accessing an online management system via a Web browser.
For businesses managing multiple displays, the LG E-paper Display can also be integrated with LG SuperSign CMS, LG’s content management solution. This allows users to distribute and schedule single-image content across multiple e-paper display units remotely. Content can also be distributed through USB storage devices or customers’ own content management system (CMS) servers.
