| I’d bet the most common question that any Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 owner would have gotten is,“How does it compare with the iPad 2?”.
So having spent more than two weeks with mine (a 16GB Wifi Galaxy Tab 10.1), here’s my take on it.
If you only have half a minute, my quick answer is it’s better than the iPad2 ONLY if you’re a power user, but you’ll be better off with an iPad 2 if simplicity is what you’re looking for.
And if you have a little more time, here’s why. …

As we roll into 2011, and a whole slew of new tablets are set to be launched at CES next week, I’m worrying a little for folks who are selling Huawei’s Ideos S7 tablet.
It’s running the older Android 2.1, said one of my techie pals, when I showed them the tablet over Christmas. Another said the screen looked washed out. I chimed in too, calling out Huawei’s decision to release a tablet with a resistive screen instead of a capacitive version that offers better touch sensitivity.
Is there any hope that such a tablet aimed at the low-end will succeed in Singapore? I think the main reason would be its price. It’s going for S$0 to S$198 at M1, if you sign up for a subscription plan with the telco. The retail price for the Ideos S7? A halfway-house S$548.
(UPDATE: Huawei has since revised the price to S$499).

Everyone already has an iPad.
That was one of the reasons for users going for Samsung’s just as hyped-up Galaxy Tab, when I asked fellow buyers of the new tablet at SingTel’s launch event last Saturday.
Another guy in the crowd told me Samsung’s 7-incher was much more portable than the 10-inch iPad, when I casually asked him, while waiting for almost two hours at SingTel Comcentre over the weekend (the event could be better planned, to be honest).
Yet someone else explained that he went for the Android-based Galaxy Tab because he couldn’t stand the way Apple controlled how people used their devices. He wanted Flash, used to show multimedia on many websites, and which Apple adamantly won’t support.
All of these reasons, if you ask me, were also what eventually pushed me to buy a Galaxy Tab for myself. Now, a week after trying out the tablet on a plane, while overseas and back in the living room couch, I’m glad I bought the best tablet currently out there. …

Long before Apple and Samsung trotted out their tablets, the lesser-known Archos had been making what were known as portable multimedia players (PMPs), which worked sort of like tricked-up MP3 players with video playback.
Now, after being not particularly successful with early Android tablets, the French company is back with a couple of tablets you really have to check out before buying an iPad or Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab.
While buying some parts for a PC over the weekend, I found the Archos 70 and 101 tablets selling at Memory World and its other outlet Storage Studio at Sim Lim Square, and I joined a small crowd swiping our fingers over the screens of these two wonderfully portable machines.
Boy, was I pleasantly surprised after getting a quick hands-on with the gizmos.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is shipping in Singapore on November 13, with the Wi-Fi cum 3G version hitting stores before a Wi-Fi-only version that could appear later at a yet unspecified date.
The much-awaited tablet computer, a much-touted rival to Apple’s iPad, will be sold by SingTel as well as by Samsung directly, the companies just unveiled at a launch at Marina Bay Sands. …

From the Dell Streak to Viewsonic’s Viewpad, tablets were out in force at the IFA Berlin electronics show this week.
At least in their current state, none of them are as good as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, whether this boils down to the responsiveness or screen brightness. But at least you’ll be spoilt for choice come Christmas, when these gizmos hit the shelves at differing price points. …
