New ROM for HTC Touch Diamond users

Don’t like the sluggish performance of the HTC Touch Diamond? There’s a new ROM out for Singapore users here that should speed things up on the small screen.

A Hong Kong version of the new ROM (1.93.xxx.xxx) has already been out for a week or so… and I can say, after installing it on my HTC Touch Diamond, that it is a huge improvement in speeds when moving menus around.

Some of the fancy animation – like the “3D” background when you move menus – has been taken out but most of the important snazzy stuff are still there so you almost don’t miss a beat.

The memory leak issue, which means the device doesn’t free up memory (up to 80 per cent for me) when programs are closed, is still there, but at least the graphics seem snazzier and faster now.

That HK version however, requires Singapore users to load in a bootloader software first before it can be installed, because it is not meant for Singapore sets.

The new Singapore ROM, which is available from the HTC site (via the e-club link), will let you just flash straight into your HTC Touch Diamond. Enjoy!

Update: list of fixes from the HTC Southeast Asia site for the Singapore ROM:

HTC Touch Diamond ROM Code Update (2008/31/07)
ROM version:  1.93.707.1 WWE
ROM date: 07/14/08
Radio Version : 52.29.25.12H_1.00.25.05

* You can check device ROM version from Start -> Setting -> System -> Device Information -> Version.

Description:
1. Enabled GSM 850 band.
2. Fixed weather update to work with M1 SIM card.
3. Improved TouchFLO 3D tab switching and movement speed.
4. Improved home page loading speed.
5. Turned off the 5-second auto screen off function when screen is turned back on by pressing power key during a voice call. Screen off timeout will follow system power setting.
6. Added random access bar to the right hand edge of the screen for selection of weather countries and cities.
