Asus is shipping the fastest and possibly sexiest PC graphics card around, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 690, and Techgoondu understands it has already sold out the first batch of pre-orders in Singapore.

The card, unveiled in Shanghai just days ago by Nvidia to the surprise of many gamers, essentially combines the power of two of the already very fast GTX 680 graphics cards. Cards featuring the GTX 690 are reported to cost about US$1,000 each.

The GTX 690’s graphics prowess will come in handy for hardcore gamers who likely run more than one monitor at at least 1,920 x 1,200 or perhaps 2,560 x 1,600 resolutions.

The good news is that Nvidia has this time managed to curb the huge power consumption that top-end graphics cards often demand. Two of the GK104 graphics chips onboard (the same ones used in a GTX 680) draw a rather modest TDP (thermal design power) of 300 watts, compared to the 365W used by Nvidia’s previous dual-chip GTX 590 graphics card.

What this means is that gamers who are nuts about overclocking their machines could yet push their graphics cards even further, given the extra performance and power headroom.

Unfortunately for some PC speedsters, the first small batch of Asus cards hitting the stores in Singapore this week or the next are already all snapped up. And there’s no news yet of when the next batch will hit these shores, because of worldwide shortage for the card.

So, even if you have US$1,000 to splurge on your next graphics card, join the queue!
