Readers enjoyed a memorable evening last week exploring how to shoot better pictures of food and night scenery at Marina Bay Sands at the first Techgoondu Mobile Photography Workshop.

The event, open to the first 20 readers who signed up, also involved famous dishes at The Bird Southern Table and Bar such as its fried chicken, which provided a ready subject for the photographers.

A few participants came equipped with light sticks to brighten up the dishes for a better shot. Everyone was armed with the door gift – a tripod – that helped to steady the phones when shooting under dim light.

The event kicked off with Marina Bay Sands photographer Jeff Chouw offering participants some tips on shooting the iconic waterfront.

Techgoondu’s Wilson Wong then brought the group through some techniques he used during this travels in Japan last year, highlighting the capabilities that phones possess today to enable great shots on the go.

With dinner done, the readers scoured the waterfront to find inspiration for a night shot that could be entered along with an earlier food photo into a contest. The prize – a Huawei Mate 10 Pro phone.

Over dessert, the readers uploaded their best shots and waited for the judge for the evening, Wong, to decide on the winner.

In the end, Catherine, who was one of the first to sign up for the event, won for her shot of a seafood dish.

Declaring her the winner, Wong said the photo was well composed, had good contrast and colour and captured the evening’s activities well.

Congratulations to Catherine again and thank you to all our readers for making this event a blast. For folks who missed out this time round, we hope to organise more such reader events in the coming months.

Do share with us your ideas of what you wish to see in the next event in the comments here!

And if you think your shots are good enough, pit them against the best at the Huawei Next-Image Awards.
